President gifts unique masterpiece Samadhi Buddha statue to Modi

Following a landslide election victory, Indian Premier Narendra Modi made his first foreign visit to express his solidarity to the Sri Lankan people. He was in the country for only a few hours. During the short period, he made it a point to visit St. Anthony’s Shrine, Kochchikade to sympathise with the Easter Sunday victims. 

In honour of this very special visit, President Maithripala Sirisena gifted a very valuable Samadhi Buddha statue (46” x 17.5” x 32.5’) made out of Ath Demata (Botanical Name – Gmelina arborea/White Teak) to Premier Modi, who was greatly pleased with the unique masterpiece that he received. The Samadhi Buddha is a famous statue situated at Mahamevnawa Uyana in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. The statue is dated to around the 4th century and is regarded as one of the finest Buddha statues in Sri Lanka.

On enquiry, it was found that the marketer of this replica of the Samadhi Buddha statue is LAKARCADE, Asia’s biggest novelty gift & souvenir arcade, located on 33, Staple Street, Colombo 02.
