President inspects construction work of National Nephrology Hospital in Polonnaruwa

President Maithripala Sirisena on Thursday engaged in an inspection tour of the construction site of the National Nephrology Hospital in Polonnaruwa.

The new hospital, which is a gift from China, is being built as the largest kidney hospital in South Asia at a cost of Rs. 1.2 billion, fulfilling a long term aspiration of the President to provide services for kidney patients.

The hospital will be a great asset and a gift to the people of Sri Lanka, not only for the people living in the North Central Province but also in other areas. The hospital project includes all the state-of-the-art facilities necessary for kidney patients.

The project is expected to be completed within 24 months and accordingly, the construction work is to be completed in July 2020.

The President apprised the officials of the importance of completing construction work promptly to provide services for kidney patients.

Following the inspection tour, the President enjoyed some free time at the Parakrama Samudra premises, where he engaged in conversations with the visitors and pilgrims to Polonnaruwa and discussed their issues.

The President, who engaged in an observational visit around Polonnaruwa, experiencing the magnificence of Pulathisipura Poson, visited the Poson region situated in the Kaduruwela agricultural economic centre.
