President makes first official visit to Army HQ at Akuregoda

President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday made his first official visit to the Army Headquarters Complex Akuregoda in Pelawatta, Battaramulla. 

President awarded certificates of appreciation to the Army officers who protected the Parliament from the protesters who came to the Parliament complex recently.  The President was received on arrival by Army Commander Lt. Gen. Vikum Liyanage, and was accorded a guard of honour.  Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles, Secretary of Ministry of Defence Gen. Kamal Gunaratne, Presidential Senior Advisor Sagala Ratnayake, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Shavendra Silva and senior security officers were present on this occasion.
