President promises to expedite reparations for families of disappeared

President Ranil Wickremesinghe presenting the Government’s 2024 Budget yesterday promised to expedite the payment of reparation for families of the country’s forcibly disappeared persons. 

Wickremesinghe announced an allocation of an additional Rs. 1 billion to expedite the compensation payments for the families of missing persons. 

He also noted that a significant sum of Rs. 500 million has been earmarked for the development of Pooneryn, strategically situated on the Jaffna Lagoon. 

In response to pressing potable water issues in Jaffna, the President also committed Rs. 250 million for essential infrastructure projects.The President also acknowledged the ongoing necessity for resettlement in regions previously impacted by the conflict, with the Government allocating a significant amount of Rs. 2 billion for this vital endeavour.
