  • Says as Monday is ‘Public Day,’ all relevant officials must be available
  • Direct heads of institution to ensure relevant officials do not take leave, remain at office on Monday

The Presidential Secretariat yesterday issued a circular directing public officials to refrain from taking leave or going out of their offices on Monday, which has been declared ‘Public Day’ for all State institutions from this

week onwards.

The circular follows the decision by Cabinet last week to change Public Day from Wednesday to Monday, to enable members of the public to have their needs attended to through State institutions.

The circular was addressed to all ministry and State ministry secretaries, chief secretaries of Provincial Councils, divisional/district secretaries, secretaries to governors, heads of departments, and State-owned enterprises.

Heads of each institution must ensure that the relevant officials remain in office on Monday to attend to the needs of the public, and refrain from going out except for essential official work, Secretary to the President P. B. Jayasundera said in the circular.
