Foreign Affairs State Minister Tharaka Balasuriya
Foreign Affairs State Minister Tharaka Balasuriya yesterday described President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s non-aligned foreign as the best in the history of independent Sri Lanka.
In a press conference themed ‘Collective Path to a Stable Country’ held at the Presidential Media Centre (PMC), the State Minister emphasised the President’s agenda of strengthening ties with both China and India, leading to broad regional and global outreach.
State Minister Balasuriya commended President Wickremesinghe’s approach, which has effectively dispelled accusations of favouring one major power over another. “Instead, the President has worked towards maintaining strong cooperation with all countries, fostering international support and strengthening Sri Lanka’s future growth prospects,” he added.
He said President Ranil Wickremesinghe follows a non-aligned foreign policy.
During President Wickremesinghe’s recent visit to India, the relationship between the two nations further improved, leading to discussions about advantageous investments and development projects.
“The close relationship with our neighbour India is important as it will provide strong support for the future growth,” he added.
He asserted that the Government is also focused on transforming Sri Lanka into an energy hub and plans include discussions on developing offshore wind energy, solar energy, and green energy. Additionally, attention is given to modernising the Trincomalee Oil Tank Complex and enhancing trade between Sri Lanka and India.
He also revealed that President Wickremesinghe is set to visit China soon and several other countries in the future, aiming to improve relations with regionally powerful nations.
“The Government is taking a proactive stance by not only developing political relations but also emphasising the importance of economic and social ties with countries worldwide,” he added.
