President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday announced that he will send three representatives with his message to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session on Sri Lanka.

Sirisena said that MPs Dr Sarath Amunugama, Mahinda Samarasinghe and Northern Province Governor Dr Suren Raghavan were to represent him at the UNHRC session.

The three-member team is to carry his request to the international community to not interfere in the country’s reconciliation process, he said, addressing the heads of media institutions at President’s House.

“My message to them is to request them to refrain from interference. We have had peace for ten years, and reconciliation is not easy. The country should move on, and not be reminded of old wounds, and that’s what I want to tell them,” he said.

The President said that his representatives will inform the UNHRC to leave Sri Lanka to handle its issue on its own.
