Prime Minister calls on everyone to commit to build a new Sri Lanka

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe noting that every sphere of the country has been developed democratically said the United National Party (UNP) will consolidate the good governance ensured after 2015 election to build a new Sri Lanka.

Addressing a meeting of UNP electoral organisers and District managers at the party headquarters, Sirikotha, the Premier said the UNP has presented young presidential candidate to fulfill the aspirations of the youth for prosperity in the country and everyone should be committed to win the Presidential Election.

The meeting was held to brief the UNP electoral organisers on the upcoming Presidential Election, its campaigns and the village level organising activities.

UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Chairman Kabir Hashim, Deputy Leader and presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa, Deputy Leader Ravi Karunanayake and National Organiser Naveen Dissanayake were also present. Many senior ministers and MPs in the party also joined.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said the new generation of young people in the country are expecting a better society, a society that can resolve their problems without having to go to a politician. He said the UNP can fulfill the young people’s hopes for a better society for them and their families.

Wickremesinghe recalling that the party members were committed to restoring him to the Prime Minister when he was removed from office, said he will go beyond to create a new Sri Lanka and a young minister has been put forward as a candidate for the task and all should join together in the fight.

The Prime Minister said he knows the young candidate’s talents and recalled the services rendered by his father, late President R. Premadasa.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said the upcoming Presidential election will be a decisive contest which will determine the future of the party and UNP members

“The time has come for all of us to get together. The time we all UNPers talked is over. Now what we have to do is to go out there and convert others and convince the people who say they will not vote to exercise their right,” the Premier told the electoral organisers. “Doing those tasks will lead us to victory,” he added.

The Prime Minister also pledged to initiate new development programs during the next five years and noted that the present Government achieved a number of wins by working within a democratic framework.
