Prime Minister welcomes media ethics gazette for LG polls

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday at a ceremony at Temple Trees signed an agreement to welcome the gazette notification which governs media ethics for the local government election. 

The Prime Minister promised that the Government was committed to hold the local government election without violating any laws. Wickremesinghe also welcomed the new media guidelines gazetted by the Elections Commission to be presented in Parliament for approval. Once passed in Parliament, the guidelines will become law, requiring all media institutions to abide by the regulations.  The Prime Minister said it was another milestone for the good governance mandate of the current Government and it would contribute towards holding free and fair elections in the future, establishing unbiased and fair reporting by media houses.
