Professional dialogue marks 40th anniversary of UDA under President’s patronage

The inaugural event of the professional dialogue, which was organised to mark the 40th anniversary of the Urban Development Authority (UDA), was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena in Colombo, 2 October. UDA’s mission is to promote and to regulate the urban development process in order to facilitate the growth of the economy, protecting the natural and built heritage and improving the quality of life of all inhabitants.

At present, the Urban Development Authority has been able to make the largest contribution to the national economy from the construction field while maintaining a stable financial management based on good governance policies.

This professional dialogue was organised on the theme: ‘The past 40 years of Urban Development Authority, the present and the future'. The panel comprised of Senior Urban Designer Prof. Willy Mendis, Prof. Indralal de Silva, Department of Demography, University of Colombo, Senior Lecturer Dr. L. Gunaruwan, the Department of Economics, University of Colombo, Anushka Wijesinha, Advisor, Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade and an advisor from Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore.

Distinguished guests including the Urban Development Authority Director-General Sumeda Rathnayake and Land Reclamation and Development Corporation Chairman Roshan Gunawardena participated on this occasion.
