The National Police Commission, on the recommendation of Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara, has taken steps to grant promotions to 2,891 police officers of various ranks following interviews.
Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said 410 women police officers were among those who were promoted.
Accordingly, 1,783 officers were promoted from Police Constables to Police Sergeants, while 334 women Police Constables were promoted as Police Sergeants.
A total of 553 Police Sergeants had been promoted to the rank of Sub-Inspector of Police and 76 women Police Sergeants were also promoted as Sub-Inspectors.
In addition, promotions were given to 124 Police Constable Drivers, making them Sergeants, while 21 Sergeant Drivers were promoted to the rank of Sub-Inspector.
