Persons must have proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to enter public places starting 30 April.
According to an extraordinary gazette dated 25 January, all persons must carry proof of vaccination when entering public places unless exempted by the Proper Authority in respect of the whole of Sri Lanka.
A public place is defined as “any place or a mode of transportation used in public transport to which the public have access, whether as of right or otherwise, whether on payment or not, whether on invitation or not.”
As per the gazette, the required doses a person must receive to be considered fully vaccinated will be specified by the Director General of Health Services.
A circular issued by Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena on 27 January states persons over 20 years will be considered fully vaccinated if it has been less than three months since they received the second dose, after which they must have received the booster dose in order to be considered fully vaccinated.
Persons who contract COVID-19 after the second dose can receive the booster three months after the second dose and a month after infection.
Persons between 16 and 19 years will be considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the second dose, while children between 12 and 15 years are fully vaccinated two weeks after a single vaccine dose.
