Rajitha remanded till Monday

Former Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, who had admitted himself to a private hospital in Colombo, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday. 

He has been remanded till 30 December after an Additional Magistrate visited him by his bedside yesterday. The CID had recorded a statement from the Parliamentarian on Thursday (26 December). 

Senaratne had admitted himself to the cardiology unit of a private hospital in Colombo on Thursday, three days after an arrest warrant was issued against him. 

The Police have been on the lookout for the Parliamentarian since Monday and had searched two other properties looking for him. 

Senaratne is wanted by the Police regarding his involvement in a press conference where two individuals who were alleged drivers of ‘white vans’ addressed the media. The two men who were at the press conference, where Dr. Senaratne, too, was present, were arrested and are presently in remand custody. 

They have been remanded till 6 January by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.
