United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake has been further remanded until 12 February by the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court.
The order was delivered by the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court when the case against the Parliamentarian was taken up yesterday.
MP Ramanayake was arrested for alleged offences committed under Article 111C (2) of the Constitution, which includes interference with the functions of judges.
On 14 January, the Attorney General directed the Director of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to obtain an arrest warrant for MP Ramanayake, which was later issued by the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court. He was later arrested and remanded though given the opportunity to attend Parliament on two days.
Several controversial conversations recorded by Ramanayake and several influential figures were also highlighted in Parliament.
