Retired High Court Judge Majeed conferred Doctor of Philosophy

Retired High Court Judge U.L. Abdul Majeed was conferred Doctor of Philosophy in Law by the University of Colombo when the Postgraduate Convocation of 2017 was held ceremonially on Tuesday, 13 November at the B.M.I.C.H.

Doctor Majeed has been conferred this Doctorate for eminent work in the field of law. His publication of ‘A Commentary on Civil Procedure Code and Civil Law in Sri Lanka, Volume I and II’, is a masterpiece which is well recognised and well received not only in Sri Lanka but also in India and Stanford University, USA. These two volumes have been accepted and in use as authorities on Civil Procedure by Courts, practitioners and Law Institutes including Sri Lanka Law College.

Dr. Majeed has also authored two other books, namely, ‘A Modern Treatise on the Law of Delict (Tort)’ and ‘Equity and the Law of Trusts’. His two other books, entitled ‘Applicability of the Evidence Ordinance in Civil Actions’ and ‘Some Aspects of the Common Law and Statute Law’ are awaiting publication.

Dr. Majeed has also authored ‘Manual on Family Law’ to the Sri Lanka Judges Institute. He has contributed several research articles on subjects of law to several publications and journals, such as BASL Law Journal, Meezan and Neethi Murasu of Sri Lanka Law College. 

Dr. Mjaeed is the present Chairman of the Wakfs Tribunal of Sri Lanka.
