Rotary the best for project management skill: New Governor Dushan Soza

Rotary, the only service organisation which has a seat at the UN General Assembly with 34,282 member clubs worldwide and 1.2 million individuals, is committed to making the world a better place. 

In Sri Lanka, Rotary with 71 clubs and 1,200 members has elected top business professional from the IT/BPO industry Dushan Soza as the new Governor for Sri Lanka and Maldives for 2017/18.

Souza, the Managing Director of BPN One Ltd, an IT solutions company which has a 30-year track record both in Sri Lanka and across the world, said: “I acknowledge the trust placed in me and in my judgment. Rotary is one of the best project management companies for implementing humanitarian and service initiatives. The eradication of polio, which is at 97% globally and 100% in Sri Lanka, by working closely with government organisations is a classic example of this fact.” 

Soyza, the former Managing Director of WNS Global Services Ltd, built the organisation during a 14-year tenure to be one of the largest IT/BPO companies in Sri Lanka with almost 2,000 professionals. He was instrumental in shaping the industry and was the founder member of SLASSCOM and served on the boards of the Export Development Board (EDB) and Consumer Affairs Authority. 

Apart from his professional expertise, Soza is a sought after speaker, being an engineer and having graduated from the University of Reading (UK). Early in his life, he was a professional cricketer and went on to captain the Sri Lanka Under-19 team and play cricket at a first-class level. A former captain of St. Joseph’s College, he led the team for two years to win championships and also represented the combined schools cricket team. 

Soyza brings to the table experience in people leadership, governance, strategy brand marketing and operational experience with his experience in the BPO industry and he invites professionals in Sri Lanka and the Maldives to join Rotary to serve the community and make the country a better place to live in. 

“One of my focus projects is how we can support the Government on the drive to eradicate dengue. We will work with the Ministry of Health and WHO to bring in a best practice to Sri Lanka,” he said.
