Main opposition party, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday issued a statement condemning the attack by terror outfit Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on the Shah-e-Cheragh mausoleum in the city of Shiraz, Iran on 13 August.

At least two people were killed and eight others injured in the armed terrorist attack at the popular pilgrimage site on Sunday evening. The site is home to the tomb of religious figure Ahmed bin Musa and is the third most important shrine in Shia Islam in Iran.

The party said it was deeply saddened and horrified by the attack at the shrine.

“This cowardly act of terrorism has claimed the lives of two innocents with many more suffering injuries. We condemn this attack in the strongest terms possible and offer our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the people of Iran,” the release said.

The SJB said the incident is a reminder of the dangers of terrorism and the need for all countries to work together to fight the scourge.
