The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has formally requested information regarding alleged privileges sought for the former President, following claims that a letter had been sent by Ranil Wickremesinghe’s Security Head SSP Nizam Jamaldeen. SJB Legal Secretary Farman Cassim has filed an application under the Right to Information Act (RTI) seeking details about the privileges reportedly requested on behalf of the former President.

Taking to X SJB’s Weligama Organiser and former Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, Rehan Jayawickrama confirmed the party’s move, citing concerns about a letter sent by SSP Nizam Jamaldeen, ref. D/PSD/18763/09/2024. The letter, allegedly seeking additional facilities for the former President, was reportedly received by the secretary to President Anura Dissanayake on 25 September 2024, he said.

Jayawickrama emphasised the need for transparency and urged the Former President’s office to provide accountability. He stated, “Do not ask me specifically to provide the letter, but instead demand accountability from the office of the Former President. I have provided the reference of the letter. Prove me wrong and say there was no letter as such.”

He said as of now, the SJB is awaiting an official response from the office of the Former President, calling for clarity on the matter and urging responsible parties to address the allegations.
