  • Says PCoI report has failed to bring closure to affected

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has extended the party’s support to the ‘Black Sunday’ protest organised by the Catholic Church, aimed at expressing their displeasure at the recently concluded Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCI) report in to the Easter Sunday attack.

Issuing a press release, SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara stated that the PCoI report had not brought victims of the extremist bombings any respite or justice and called the findings “tragic”.

Bandara urged the Government to reveal the ‘masterminds’ behind the 2019 attack, charging that the Government had used the attacks and subsequent concerns regarding national security as a platform to secure power.

“We support the Cardinal’s ‘Black Sunday’ protest. The Government must deliver justice to the victims. The Cardinal has clearly stated that an undertaking given by both the President and Prime Minister to investigate the attack have not been honoured,” Bandara stated.
