Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP S.M. Marikkar addressing the Parliament yesterday assured that a prospective Government led by SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa would initiate an investigation and apprehend the individuals responsible for orchestrating the 2019 Easter Sunday attack.

“If the current Government does not carry out a thorough investigation to identify and bring to justice the masterminds behind the Easter Sunday attack, a future SJB Government will take the required actions,” he pledged.

He also promised that a Government led by the SJB would firmly stop the emergence of racism, terrorism, and extremism in any form during its tenure.

“We merely want justice to be delivered and any future occurrences of such incidents to be prevented. The future depends on the past and present. Therefore those involved in incidents of the past must be punished while we must also rectify the present in order to move to the future,” he said.

“The current President lost his premiership at the time due to the Easter attack. The Government collapsed due to the same reason. The UNP also split into two due to the bombings,” the MP added.

He called upon President Ranil Wickremesinghe to initiate a sincere and comprehensive investigation rather than appointing ineffective or superficial commissions. “If you fail to do this, the SJB will carry out the task,” Marikkar claimed.

The MP asserted that the current Government’s days are numbered and predicted that it would face a similar fate as former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who was forced to step down by the country’s people.
