SL, Maldives reaffirm commitment to boost bilateral ties

Sri Lanka and the Maldives this week reaffirmed their commitment to boosting bilateral ties.

This assurance was shared by Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, when the two met on Tuesday during the former’s two-day official visit to Sri Lanka.

President Solih and President Rajapaksa held an extensive discussion on a wide array of subjects of mutual interest and reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening Maldives-Sri Lanka cooperation in the coming years.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Ahmed Khalil, Secretary of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office in Maldives Ibrahim Hood and High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka Omar Abdul Razak, were also present at the meeting.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa hosted an official luncheon in honour of the visiting President of the Maldives. Prior to the luncheon, President Solih took time to converse with the Prime Minister on topics of mutual interest.

The Maldivian President and First Lady’s visit to Sri Lanka is to officiate the opening ceremony of the ‘Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy 2021’ football tournament. Apart from the Maldives and Sri Lanka national football teams, teams from Bangladesh and Seychelles are also participating.
