In commemoration of World Patient Safety Day, the Health Ministry yesterday launched the official website for the Directorate of Healthcare Quality and Safety, located at the Castle Street Hospital for Women.
In addition to this, the Ministry selected 10 project reports for promotional purposes. According to a statement issued by the Ministry, the project proposals were selected from 150 submissions and are based on projects implemented in various hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This aligns with the theme of this year’s World Patient Safety Day, which is ‘Health Worker Safety: A Priority for Patient Safety’ and takes into account the challenges faced by health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Health Ministry added that all hospitals in the island as well as the Health Ministry premises were lit in orange, which symbolises the central role patient safety plays in efforts to achieve universal health coverage.
The World Health Organisation states that lighting up a monument in orange is the signature mark of the Day. As such, the Lotus Tower, Colombo was lit orange from 6 pm yesterday. World Patient Safety Day is annually held on 17 September to increase public awareness and engagement, enhance global understanding, and spur global solidarity and action to promote patient safety.
