Over 2.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines reached the island over the weekend, with 1.86 million doses of Sinopharm arriving yesterday and 728,000 doses of AstraZeneca arriving on Saturday.
Sri Lanka received the AstraZeneca doses through the COVAX facility, and this is the second half of a total of 1.45 million doses donated by the Government of Japan.
Four million Sinopharm doses have reached the island this month and Sri Lanka has received a total of 14.7 million doses of Sinopharm to date. This includes both donations from China and vaccines purchased by Sri Lanka.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 8,724,866 persons have received the first dose of Sinopharm and 1,903,017 persons have received the second dose. This includes persons vaccinated on Saturday, of which 63,451 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 69,736 persons received the second dose.
On Saturday, 29,654 persons received the first dose of AstraZeneca and 9,570 persons received the second dose. In total, the first dose of the vaccine has been administered to 1,103,873 persons and the second dose to 860,723 persons.
The first dose of Moderna has been administered to 747,941 persons, including 19,115 persons vaccinated on Saturday.
The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine was also administered on Saturday, with 2,962 persons receiving the first dose and 58 persons receiving the second dose. The Epidemiology Unit states that 250,763 persons have received the first dose and 458 persons have received the second dose to date.
In addition to the above COVID-19 vaccines, the Sputnik V first dose has been administered to 159,081 persons and the second dose to 14,516 persons. As of Saturday, the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine had been administered to 10,986,524 persons and the second dose had been administered to 2,778,714 persons.
