A consignment of two million doses of Sinopharm reached the island on Sunday and Sri Lanka has thus far received 7.1 million doses of the vaccine.
Of the 7.1 million doses, 1.1 million doses were a donation from the Government of China. Health officials have stated that the country will receive a total of 13 million Sinopharm vaccine doses by the end of the year.
The two million doses received yesterday will be allocated to several districts, with 500,000 doses set aside for Gampaha, 300,000 doses set aside for Kalutara, 200,000 doses set aside for Colombo and 200,000 doses set aside for Kurunegala. In addition to this, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, Anuradhapura, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Badulla, and Matale will each receive 100,000 doses of Sinopharm.
As of Saturday, 2,856,147 persons had received the first dose of Sinopharm and 1,023,128 persons had received both doses. This includes 132,510 persons who received the first dose on Saturday and 34,555 persons who received the second dose on Saturday. In addition to the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine, 7,614 persons received the first dose of Pfizer on Saturday, raising the total number of persons to receive a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to 11,069.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 1,145 persons received the second dose of AstraZeneca on Saturday. The first dose of the vaccine has been administered to 925,242 persons and the second dose to 385,647 persons.
The Sputnik V vaccine is also being administered in the country, with the first dose having been administered to 114,795 persons and the second dose to 14,464 persons.
The Epidemiology Unit states that, in total, a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 3,907,253 persons and both doses have been administered to 1,423,239 persons.
