The Sri Lanka-China Friendship Association (SLCFA) extended its profound appreciation to the People’s Republic of China for once again coming forward to assist the people of Sri Lanka in times of crisis.

“On 22 October, Ambassador Qi Zhenhong, representing the Chinese Government, handed over Rs. 30 million in emergency humanitarian relief funds to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. This generous donation will provide essential support to those affected by the recent floods, aiding their recovery and helping them rebuild their homes.”

“The Chinese Government and the people of China have consistently demonstrated their unwavering commitment to standing by Sri Lanka during difficult times. Be it floods, droughts, the COVID-19 pandemic, or shortages of critical medicines, China has extended its friendship, treating the people of Sri Lanka with care and compassion, as if they were their own.

In the aftermath of these devastating floods, China was the first country to provide substantial relief funds, underscoring the deep bonds of solidarity between the two nations. The SLCFA expresses its profound appreciation to President Xi Jinping, the Communist Party of China, the Chinese Government, and the Embassy of China in Sri Lanka for their swift and generous response to the crisis.”

“As we face these challenging circumstances, we are confident that, under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Sri Lanka will recover and emerge stronger. The enduring friendship between Sri Lanka and China, rooted in mutual respect and shared history, continues to be a source of strength for our nation.

The SLCFA acknowledges China’s invaluable contributions not only during this flood disaster but also in other critical moments. From providing life-saving assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic to supporting us through periods of drought and medicine shortages, China’s commitment to the welfare of Sri Lanka has been unwavering.

On behalf of the people of Sri Lanka, we extend our deepest gratitude to the Government and people of China for their continued support. The close ties between our nations, fortified by China’s consistent help during our most difficult times, remind us of the enduring bond of friendship and cooperation that we cherish.”
