SLFP MPs appeal to President to contest for a second term

The Parliamentarians of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) yesterday handed over a letter to President Maithripala Sirisena, requesting the President to contest in the upcoming Presidential Election.

The letter proposed forming a joint progressive movement along with the anti-UNP politicians and urging the President to lead it, the President’s Media said in a statement. 

Senior Deputy President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Nimal Siripala de Silva, General Secretary of Sri Lanka Freedom Party Dayasiri Jayasekara, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Sarath Amunugama, Duminda Dissanayake, Mahinda Amaraweera, Faiszer Musthapha, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Weerakumara Dissanayake, Dushmantha Mithrapala, Sriyani Wijewickrama, Mohan Lal Grero, Shantha Bandara were among the group that handed President the letter.
