Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has expressed its willingness to move forward with anyone willing to align with the party’s policies, according to the party’s General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam.

Addressing the media in Colombo yesterday, Kariyawasam highlighted the return of Kegalle district SLPP representatives who had previously left the SLPP during the last Presidential Election.

The meeting, held at the party’s head office in Nelum Mawatha, Colombo, was part of a larger effort to rebuild and strengthen the SLPP, as regional leaders who had distanced themselves from the party are now rejoining its ranks, he said.

Kariyawasam emphasised that the SLPP is embarking on a new journey, driven by the need for fresh leadership and renewed direction. “Many believe that the party must start a new chapter with new leadership, and we are actively discussing this with district representatives across the country,” he said. He added that the party is committed to working with any persons who accept and adhere to its policies, aiming to consolidate power and continue its political vision.

“We are a party driven by policies, and our main objective is to gain power through those principles. Anyone who is willing to join us and uphold these values is welcome to do so,” Kariyawasam reiterated.

Meanwhile, SLPP National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa dismissed concerns of a party split, asserting that the SLPP is a continuously evolving political entity. “The Pohottuwa, is ready for a new journey. Unlike other parties, we adapt and grow,” Rajapaksa said. He reassured supporters that the party’s resilience and ability to renew itself will enable it to navigate future challenges.
