SOs to be amended to increase powers of all Committees including COPE, COPA

A motion to amend Standing Orders and increase the powers of all Parliament Committees including Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) will be tabled in Parliament next week, the Leader of the House, Minister Dinesh Gunawardena told Parliament yesterday.

Gunawardena said that at present Committee Chairs do a great service by traditionally submitting a report to Parliament but the powers of the Committees need to be strengthened so they can go beyond submitting a report.
