Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa

Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa on Tuesday emphasised the importance of prioritising social justice through the implementation of humanitarian capitalism in the country.

Premadasa made these remarks while addressing the book launch of the Factum Foreign Policy Review ‘A Vision for a New Sri Lanka’ at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute in Colombo.

The opposition leader, while delving into the foundational aspects of Sri Lanka’s democracy, underscored the necessity for the country to focus on economic diplomacy.

“Our policy should be to further our expectations of national priorities and interests. Right now the main theme, the main priority is to focus on economic diplomacy. Diplomacy enables Sri Lanka to extricate itself from the situation of bankruptcy and move on to a stage of persistent and consistent growth,” he said.

He also highlighted that the adoption of humanitarian capitalism in Sri Lanka should involve the implementation of social justice and a dedicated focus on fairness.

“To achieve shared prosperity we must practise humanitarian capitalism or capitalism with a human face while giving due priority to social justice and fairness,” he added.

Additionally, he commended Factum’s distinctive approach to assisting decision-makers in Sri Lanka.
