Sajith urges Govt. to ensure safety of MPs

Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday addressing Parliament urged the Government to ensure the safety of all MPs in Parliament. “It is a responsibility of the Government,” he said. 

Premadasa said the suspects involved in the shooting targeting MP Uddika Premarathna must be arrested and brought before a court of law immediately. 

“Ensuring the security of an MP is a collective responsibility. Enhance the security measures for the affected MP and promptly initiate an investigation into the attack to hold the culprits accountable,” he noted. 

In response to the incident, Ratnapura district MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara remarked that the incident was extremely concerning. He emphasised the importance of uncovering the individuals behind the plot to harm Premarathna rather than solely focusing on identifying the shooter.
