  • Says ongoing conflict can only be described as a great massacre
  • Proposes SL parliament must urge UN to convene permanent members of the UN Security Council
  • Stresses it must also be proposed that the Council takes immediate action to stop terrorism inflicted on the people by both parties

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa urged the United Nations Organisation yesterday to convene the Security Council to resolve the ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel.

Speaking in parliament, Premadasa noted that at least 500 people have lost their lives in the bombing of the Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza while the conflict has left at least 1400 Israelis and more than 3000 Palestinians dead due to the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

“The bombing of the Al Ahli Arab Hospital and other attacks are regarded as a great massacre,” Premadasa said.

He said therefore the Sri Lankan Parliament must propose that the UN convenes the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, and to take immediate action to stop the terrorism inflicted on the people by both parties of the conflict.
