Sarath Gamage, President Elect of the Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA), assumed duties as the 43rd President on 27 October.
OPA is a unique organisation, being the apex body of 52 professional member associations representing 34 professions. As such, it is the only one of its kind in South Asia. Since its inception in 1975, it has functioned as the voice of the professionals, working for the development of professions and the nation. In its mission, it has been ably served by a succession of Presidents drawn from the leading professionals in the country. For the forthcoming calendar year, the organisation will be led by Sarath Gamage, who was the immediate past President of the Institute of Supply and Materials Management of Sri Lanka (ISMM). Prior to becoming the President of the OPA, he held the post of President Elect, Vice President and Chairman of several standing and sector committees of the OPA for almost 10 years.
He organised the 36th Annual Conference held from 9-10 August at Kingsbury, Colombo which is the flagship event of the OPA in a grand manner, and the event was graced by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
