The “Siri Dalada Vandanawa,” a special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha at the Sri Dalada Maligawa will commence today (18) at 12:30 noon, after 16 years.
President Anura Kumara Disanayake is scheduled to participate in the inauguration ceremony.
A statement issued by the President’s Media Division noted that a number of foreign diplomats are expected to participate in this event. Special arrangements have been made for them to travel from Colombo to Kandy via a dedicated train service.
At the request of the President, the Siri Dalada Vandanawa will be held under the guidance of the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters, and under the direction of the Diyawadana Nilame of the historic Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy. There will be no special passes or separate queues issued for VIPs or VVIPs during the exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
The special exposition will continue for 10 days, from today till 27 April.
On the opening day, the public will have the opportunity to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. From tomorrow (19) onwards, veneration will be open daily from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
