Six persons test positive for COVID-19

Six overseas arrivals tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed patients to 3,153.

Overseas arrivals amount for 1,239 of the confirmed cases in the island, of which 47 are foreigners. The total count also includes seven COVID-19 patients identified on Wednesday, who were returnees from India, Saudi Arabia, and the UK.

A total of 1,913 local cases have also been identified, including 950 Navy personnel and their close contacts. The number of patients connected to the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre is currently 650, of which 528 are detainees undergoing rehabilitation, 67 are staff members, 48 are family members, and five are guest staffers.

Of the confirmed COVID-19 cases, 186 persons, including nine foreigners, are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals. The Epidemiology Unit states that 75 persons are at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 72 are at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), 30 are at the Iranawila Hospital, and two are at the Colombo East Base Hospital.

Hospitals are also monitoring 70 persons over suspicions of having COVID-19, including 19 at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, 18 at the Kotelawala defence University (KDU) Hospital, and seven at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL).

The Epidemiology Unit adds that nine persons were discharged during the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. yesterday, of which six persons left the Welikanda Base Hospital and three persons left the NIID.

A total of 2,955 persons have recovered from COVID-19 to date and the Health Promotion Bureau calculates the island’s recovery rate as 93.61%. With 12 COVID-19 related deaths reported in Sri Lanka, the country’s fatality rate is 0.38%.

The Health Promotion Bureau adds that 246,888 PCR tests have been performed in the island thus far, including 1,776 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Army stated that 6,126 persons are currently undergoing quarantine in 57 centres managed by the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, and Sri Lanka Air Force. A total of 39,230 persons have completed the process at centres. This includes 585 persons who left quarantine centres yesterday, of which 154 left the Eden Garden Quarantine Centre, 119 persons left the Damminna Quarantine Centre, 92 persons left the Hotel Fresco Eco Vila Quarantine Centre, 87 persons left the Sigiri Village Quarantine Centre, 51 persons left the Diyagama Sports Complex Quarantine Centre, 40 persons left the Rajagiriya Ayurvedic Quarantine Centre, 21 persons left the Kaya Beach Quarantine Centre, 20 persons left the Pelwehera Quarantine Centre, and one person left the SLAGSC Quarantine Centre.

The Sri Lanka Army added that 292 persons from Dubai, 274 persons from Saudi Arabia, 81 persons from Qatar, and nine persons from Abu Dhabi arrived in the island yesterday. All overseas arrivals will be directed to quarantine centres in the island.
