South Korea to consider extensive assistance for vocational education in SL: Deputy PM

South Korea Deputy Prime Minister Yoo Eun-hye yesterday said their Government would consider extensive assistance for initiatives in the field of vocational education and training in Sri Lanka.

She made these remarks during a discussion with Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris in Seoul yesterday.

Prof. Peiris also discussed on extensive economic cooperation between the two countries, especially Overseas Development Assistance led by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the EXIM Bank of Korea. He also expressed appreciation of the benefits derived by Sri Lanka from these programs.

The Foreign Minister, referring to the 22,000 Sri Lankans employed in South Korea, pointed out that the popularity of teaching programs directed at proficiency in the Korean language in Sri Lanka. 

Prof. Peiris also added that the Korean language had been adopted as a subject for the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination in Sri Lanka in 2023.
