Responding to media reports that Jayasuriya had summoned members of the NPC to his office and tried to influence them, the Speaker’s Office denied any such meeting took place and said there were concerted attempts to vilify his name.

“A few politicians have begun to make such false statements to tarnish the name of the Speaker, but he will not be deterred by them,” the statement said.
