Speaker endorses certificate on Appropriation Bill for 2023

Speaker of House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena yesterday endorsed certificate on the “Appropriation (Amendment)” Bill which was passed in Parliament on Thursday

Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana endorsed the certificate on the Appropriation Bill for the year 2023 on Thursday.

On 14 November President and Finance Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe presented the opening speech for the Second Reading of the Appropriation Bill to Parliament and the debate on the second reading of the Appropriation Bill was held from 15 to 22 November. The second reading was passed by a majority of 37 votes.

The committee debate on the Appropriation Bill started on 23 November and the voting was held on Thursday and was passed by a majority of 43 votes. Accordingly, the Appropriation Bill for the year 2023 came into force on 8 December as Appropriation Act No. 43 of 2022.
