Speaker meets UN Assistant Secretary General

UN Assistant Secretary General, UNDP Assistant Administrator 

and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific  Kanni Wignaraja 

Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena met with United Nations Assistant Secretary General, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Assistant Administrator and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, Kanni Wignaraja recently, together with the Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake, UNDP Sri Lanka Resident Representative Robert Juhkam and other representatives from the Parliament and UNDP.  

At the meeting, Kanni Wignaraja reinforced UNDP’s continued support to the Parliament of Sri Lanka to accelerate its efforts to promote the successful implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Sri Lanka, focusing on UNDP’s continued support to policy-oriented committee systems with broader public consultation as the lead UN coordinating agency supporting the Parliament of Sri Lanka. The meeting also discussed the 9th Parliament’s measures to strengthen the political participation of women and youth in Sri Lanka.
