Speaker receives copy of petition challenging 20A

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena told Parliament yesterday that he has received a copy of a petition filed in the Supreme Court challenging the Twentieth Amendment to the Constitution. He said the copy of the petition was sent by the SC.

More than ten petitions have been filed so far challenging the Bill. The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is among the parties that have petitioned the SC.

The 20th Amendment Bill was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday. Petitions challenging it can be filed within seven days.
