The Special High Court Trial at Bar yesterday decided to hear the case against former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa on the misappropriation of funds for the D.A. Rajapaksa Museum from 22 January.
The three-judge bench of the Special High Court decided to hear the case after Chairman of Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation Roshan Gunawardena informed the court that most documents requested by the defence has been recovered and can be presented. The case accused Rajapaksa of misappropriating state funds to the tune of Rs. 30 million during the construction of the D.A. Rajapaksa Museum and Memorial in Medamulana.
Following a statement to the court by Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peris that the officials from SLLRDC are set to leave the island after the court starts hearing the case, the Bench gave an order to all witnesses to inform the court before any overseas travel.
The Bench comprised of Judges Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne heard the case.
Along with Rajapaksa, SLLRDC former Chairman Prasad Harshana de Silva, former Director Board members Badrawathie Udulawathie Kamaladasa, Suddammika Keminda Attygalle, Saman Kumara Abraham Galapaththy, Dewage Mahinda Saliya and Srimathi Mallika Kumari Senadheera appeared before the court as the other defendants in the case.
