Special Investigation Committee commences inquiry into Easter Sunday attacks

The Special Investigation Committee, appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena to conduct investigations into the series of incidents which occurred due to the explosions in eight locations in the country on Easter Sunday (21 April), commenced its works on 22 April.

The Special Investigation Committee will be headed by Supreme Court Judge Vijith K. Malalgoda, and former IGP N.K. Ilangakoon and former Law & Order Ministry Secretary Padamasiri Jayamanne have been appointed as members of the Committee.

At present, the Investigation Committee has recorded statements from several high-ranking State officials, including former Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Hemasiri Fernando, and outgoing IGP Pujith Jayasundara.

It is scheduled to obtain statements from many persons, and through paper advertisements published in several leading newspapers on 25 April, requests the public and institutions to submit their opinions and information in this regard to the Investigation Committee.
