  • Minister Nanayakkara says Cabinet is considering allowing International probe
  • Says setting up of special Parliamentary select committee to probe revelations will be announced soon
  • Claims Govt. will not hesitate to carry out necessary steps

Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara addressing Parliament yesterday announced a special Parliamentary select committee will be set up to investigate claims made in the recent UK Channel 4 documentary into the Easter Sunday attack.

The Minister claimed it was also deliberated during the Cabinet meeting to facilitate an International investigation if required.

The Minister was responding to a question posed by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Hector Appuhamy.

“As a Government, we are committed to acting responsibly. During yesterday’s Cabinet meeting, we also turned our attention to the Easter Sunday attack. We will soon announce the establishment of a special Parliamentary committee to investigate this matter,” he stated. “Furthermore, there was a proposal to consider the possibility of an International investigation. I personally brought up this issue in Cabinet as a Member of Parliament,” he added. The Minister said the Government will not hesitate to take necessary steps regarding the matter.

“When the Geneva Human Rights Council convenes, or when the United Nations General Assembly gathers, such revelations often surface through Channel 4. It is imperative that we thoroughly examine the content of this video,” the Minister noted.
