Sri Lanka Police Traffic Division has commenced an initiative to provide a special sticker to vehicles checked as part of the new Traffic Police plan under the ‘Yukthiya’ operation launched by the law enforcement agency.
Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Traffic Division Indika Hapugoda, clarified that the main objective of vehicle inspections in this operation is to combat drug smuggling, especially beyond Colombo city limits.
He said the primary objective of the initiative is to curb the illicit transportation of drugs from Colombo to other areas and apprehend any wanted suspects attempting to flee from Colombo.
According to him, as a distinct feature of the operation, police officers will use a special sticker affixed to the left side of the windscreen of checked vehicles.
He emphasised that implementing this measure ensures that vehicles, which have undergone inspection, are easily identifiable at subsequent checkpoints, thereby streamlining the overall monitoring process.
