Sri Lanka Day at Islamic University of Lebanon

Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beirut organised a Sri Lanka Day in collaboration with the Faculty of Tourism Sciences of the Islamic University of Lebanon on 13 March at the university premises. The program consisted of traditional Sri Lankan dancing, a bridal fashion show, cookery demonstrations and a painting exhibition. Speaking at the event, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Lebanon H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijeratne Mendis highlighted the importance of such activities in enhancing relations between Sri Lanka and Lebanon.  Ambassador Wijeratne Mendis also mentioned that cultural exchanges are the best way to enhance people to people relations. She extended her gratitude to the President and staff members of the Islamic University for the opportunity to promote Sri Lankan culture, culinary art, handicrafts and paintings among Lebanese students.

Chandana Amaradasa, Managing Director of Island Leisure Tours Ltd. of Sri Lanka who visited Lebanon to participate in this event made a comprehensive presentation on ‘Sri Lanka – Wonder of Asia’ during the event. Further, a group presentation was done by the students of the Islamic University on ‘Sri Lanka’s ancient kingdoms, tourism, sports, cuisine, sports and agriculture.  Representing the Sri Lankan community living in Lebanon, Malani Kandearachchi, Anna Fernando and Ushani Deepika were associated with the event.
