Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing commemorates 72nd anniversary of Independence

The 72nd anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka was commemorated at the premises of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing on 4 February with the participation of the staff of the embassy. The commemoration was conducted on a small scale due to the prevailing coronavirus outbreak in China.

The commemoration commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Charge d’ Affaires a.i. K. K. Yoganaadan of Sri Lanka Embassy in People’s Republic of China followed by singing of the National Anthem, and observing of two minute silence in honour of the national heroes of Sri Lanka.  

While wishing all staff a happy Independence Day, Yoganaadan mentioned that Sri Lanka would not have been able to achieve today’s prosperity without the determination and the sacrifices of the national heroes in safeguarding the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Sri Lanka.  He further stated that it is the duty of all Sri Lankans to work towards the development of the country. He expressed Sri Lanka’s solidarity with China at this challenging hour.

The ceremony concluded with offering Sri Lankan traditional refreshments kiribath and kokis.
