Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi honours long-serving staff members

A group of employees who have been working at the High Commission of Sri Lanka in New Delhi for more than 30 years were provided with an opportunity to tour Sri Lanka for six days as a gesture of appreciation in recognition of their long and dedicated service. The group of 10, which included five long-serving members of the staff and their spouses, left for Sri Lanka recently.

During the six-day, five-night tour in Sri Lanka, they will be visiting Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Bentota. They will be visiting the Foreign Ministry and the Presidential Secretariat while in Colombo, and in Kandy, they will pay homage to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic as well.  

The group comprised Senior Principal Secretary Deepak Nathani, who has served in the High Commission for 37 years, Senior Executive Officer Renu Sharma, who has served 30 years, Receptionist K.C. Sharma, who has a service of 41 years, Office Assistant Virendar Kumar, who has served 30 years, and Senior Security Officer Bijendra Pal, who has a service of 35 years, as well as their spouses. 

The idea of offering a tour to the long-serving members of the staff was mooted by the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India Milinda Moragoda. The High Commissioner also handed over the air tickets and hotel reservation documents to these staff members at the Maha Bodhi temple in New Delhi where Buddhist priests invoked blessings on the group before their departure to Sri Lanka.  Three Sri Lankan private companies sponsored the visit of this group.
