Sri Lanka and Pakistan have agreed to issue two commemorative postal stamps celebrating 75 years of diplomatic ties, with both countries set to showcase their historical Buddhist heritage through this collaboration.

The Cabinet of Ministers initially approved a proposal on 21 October 2024 to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the postal authorities of the two countries.

Following Cabinet approval on Monday (24), the MoU, which has yet to be formalised, is expected to be signed by the end of this month.

Under this agreement, the Sri Lanka Department of Posts and the Postal Agency of Pakistan will jointly design the stamps, featuring historical Buddhist religious sites from each country.

It will also exchange 5,000 stamps and 2,000 first-day covers, symbolising the cultural and historical ties that have long connected Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
