Sri Lankan Americans protest outside US Congress

Sri Lankan Americans held a press conference and staged a protest against forced cremation of COVID-19 victims in Sri Lanka, at the US Capitol grounds, Washington DC on Saturday, 2 January 2021. Their petition seeking fairness on global humanitarian grounds was sent to the Sri Lankan Ambassador and to the influential Senator Chris Van Hollen who has been a friend of the Sri Lankan community. The petition had wide support from, and was signed by, the Muslim, Buddhist, Christian and Hindu faith leaders in the Washington area.
