State Minister Semasinghe meets IMF, World Bank, Commonwealth heads in Morocco

State Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe met with the top officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and the Commonwealth Secretariat on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting in Morocco.

Taking to ‘X’ he said: “Met with the IMF Executive Director K. Subramanian to discuss the progress of the IMF program and the current economic conditions including challenges and opportunities faced by Sri Lanka’s economy.”

He also said a discussion was held with the World Bank Executive Director Parameswaran Iyer about the programs supported by the bank to Sri Lanka and expressed our gratitude for the support provided to the economic stability and the success of the reforms in Sri Lanka.

Separately, he said a productive dialogue was held with World Bank President, South Asia Martin Raiser on the progress of the bank-supported reforms carried out by Sri Lanka. 

State Minister said Raiser expressed the World Bank’s fullest commitment to assisting Sri Lanka.

In addition, Semasinghe said he met with Commonwealth Secretariat Secretary-General Patricia Scotland to understand how the Commonwealth could further assist Sri Lanka.

“Discussed matters of mutual interest including frameworks for debt management, anti-corruption and Government performance management,” he added.

The State Minister stated that they are hoping to meet all the partners during this week to strengthen the economic stability and achieve the sustainable economic growth of the country.

The annual meeting 2023 of the IMF and the World Bank started on Monday in Morocco. 

Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena and other officials are participating in this conference which will be held till 15 October in Marrakech, Morocco.
