Statement recorded from former CID Director

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday recorded a statement from former CID Director Shani Abeysekara.  

The move came after the Police informed the court that Abeysekara had been in conversation with officials liked to the former Government and a Swiss Embassy employee during a time period where an alleged abduction took place.  

The Police also informed the court that Abeysekara had a telephone conversation with Inspector Nishantha Silva who left the country for Switzerland after the Presidential Election in November 2019.  

Abeysekara who was interdicted over the leaked phone conversation of MP Ranjan Ramanayake was summoned by the CID to record a statement in relation to the alleged abduction of the Swiss Embassy local staffer Garnier Banister Francis.
